10 Ways to Get Ready for the Holidays

Holiday season is upon us! If you’re feeling like your home isn’t quite ready for the holidays, here are 10 things you can do right now to get it set up. Here are some great tips from Style at Home magazine.

    • Put a seasonal runner on your dining table to get into the holiday spirit.
    • Add an area rug in the living room for warmth underfoot.

  • Swap out throw blankets and cushion covers for cozier winter versions in materials such as velvet, chenille, cashmere or faux fur.
  • If you’re going to be entertaining this season, now’s the time to polish your good silver, take out your good china, iron your tablecloths, etc.
  • Host a decorating party to get your house and Christmas tree (if you celebrate with a tree) ready for the holidays.
  • Clean out your fridge. Get it ready for storing platters of hors d’oeuvres and holiday leftovers.
  • Put out bowls of nuts or fruit for a healthy and festive snack.
  • Test your smoke and CO detectors – you want to make sure they’re working this time of year when there’s constant appliance usage, lots of candles and Christmas lights, plus our heating systems are running nonstop.
  • Consider putting some of your lights on dimmer switches if they aren’t already. This is a great idea for bathroom lighting, living room lighting and dining room lighting, so you can save energy and add ambience.
  • Keep extra boot trays on hand and keep a comfy seat near the door so guests can take their shoes on and off with ease.
