[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]You’ve sent out invitations and are excited to have friends and family over to celebrate the season. But now you might be wondering what you can do to get your home ready for the holidays. If you are having overnight guests or expecting lots of family and friends to drop by, there are things you can do beforehand to make your home holiday ready.
Doesn’t matter if you like to DIY (do-it-yourself) or not, there is so much you can do (even with a small budget) to decorate your home for the holidays.
- Display holiday cards you’ve received
- Fill vases or glass bowls you already have with pinecones, cranberries or other festive items from the dollar store
- Purchase festive pillows for your living or family room
- Bring the outdoors in – find pine tree greenery to display
- Swap out your regular wall hangings for something with holiday flare
The few weeks before you entertain guests is a great time to tackle some bigger cleaning projects on your to do list. Giving your kitchen a deep clean, which includes cleaning out your fridge and cupboards is a great way to find out what items can used over the holidays and help you make your entertaining shopping list. Donate or dispose of things you no longer need to make room for any gifts you may receive!
Guest Spaces – Bedrooms & Bathrooms
If you have guests staying with you over the holidays, be sure to take inventory of the spaces they will be using before they arrive. Keep some extra toiletries in the guest bathroom in case they forgot something and be sure to have fresh towels and sheets too.
Should the spaces that will be used by your guests be a little too tight or not what you’d like them to be, think about upgrading those spaces when you can so you’ll have more space for next year. A quality bathroom and basement contractor can really help you maximize the space you have. Even updated counters and storage in the bathroom and flooring in the guest spaces can really make a difference.
The busiest place in the house will get even busier over the holidays! Extra coats, boots, mittens and hats along with boxes and presents too – where will it all fit? If you have any time or space to maximize your front entrance way, now is a great time to do it! Can you hang some hooks or add a basket to catch all the extra outerwear that will be around? Temporarily cleaning out some of the things you have in there and moving them to another place in the house will make the space more open for those extra guests coming to visit.
In the end, even if you don’t love your house the way it is, open your doors to welcome in friends and family and have a wonderful holiday season!
